FTBK runs this Literacy Program for Women in the Community to help to support them to be able to read and write in Bengali. This skill empowers them to care for themselves and their families in a greater way. Spending time together with other women in the Community is a unique opportunity to bond together and support each other. Currently 109 Women are attending this Literacy Program on a regular basis.

Free To Be Kids team run a free Education & Nutrition Program in 5 different slums in Salt lake Kolkata for the children in need. In the month of July 2023, the Free To Be Kids team taught simplification of fractional numbers, addition and subtraction of fractional numbers, capital of India and neighbouring countries, states and their capital, usefulness of trees, scientific names and general knowledge, to the children above 11 years of age. Times tables, addition and subtraction, multiply, opposite word, scientific name, why day and night happens, countries and their capitals, states and their capitals, paragraph writing to the children of 7years – 10years of age. Alphabet, numbers, spelling of numbers, colors name, shape recognition, good manners to the children below 7years of age. FTBK team’s focus is to give the children basic education and help them to get admission in Government School. In this month, 138 children attended this program and 1118 Meals were provided to these beneficiaries.

FTBK is running Youth Computer Training in the Balarampur Village for the benefit of young people. These Youth attend this training free of cost to help empower them for their studies now and in the future. This training also has the potential to help them in their career as they pursue viable employment. Each Youth that successfully completes this training receives a Certificate to show their accomplishments and to use for their CV. Currently we have 44 Students enrolled in the Certificate of Computer Application Course and 3 Students in the Desktop Publishing Course.

Kid's Clubs are run for the benefit of children in the community who do not have access to many extra curricular activities and additional education support. These clubs are where children gather to learn practical English together, along with participating in games, songs and activities. In this month 223 Children attended this program.

FTBK initiated a new Tailoring Project in the Community of Krishnarampur. This Program is provided free for Women in the Community to help to support them. This skill empowers them to care for themselves and their families in a greater way. In this first month of the program they started to learn the basics of pattern making.

Our Free to be Kids’ team runs a free EDUCATION & NUTRITION PROGRAM in six different slums in the Salt lake area. Children dwelling in those areas get Education and Tuition Support, along with nutritious food after their tuition program. Our Free to be Kids’ team also help these children to gain access to the local Government School through helping with enrolment and education supplies/fee support if needed. In the month of June 2023, 137 children attended this program and a total of 962 meals were provided to those 137 children.

Every week, in one of our target communities, women gather together to learn and increase their own capacity. We are proud of everyone who, no matter their age, are determined to take time to study and gain new skills and capacity. We currently have 109 women enrolled in our Literacy Program in the Krishnarampur Area.

In the month of May, 2023. 44 Students attended the Computer Application Course. Their curriculum was focussed on MS WORD. 3 Students are working to complete their course in Desktop Publishing. Their current curriculum was focussed on the many uses of PHOTOSHOP.

Within our Communities, the places provided for children to study are very important. In this season, due to the bad weather one of the areas we work in received damage to their learning centre. We were able to provide to materials to repair this space to again make it usable and effective for the children in that area and their community.
