CARE LEAVER SUPPORT
THE YOUNG ADULTS RECEIVE THE FOLLOWING CARE AND SUPPORT:
Provision of Necessary Medical Care
We are motivated to see young people grow up strong and healthy so they can achieve their potential. Supported young adults are receiving regular medical check-ups and vaccinations to protect them from preventable diseases.
Access to Education
When a young adult receives access to Education their minds are developed and their future expands.
Tuition Programs
Children are receiving Tuition Support to help them excel in their studies.
Career Counselling
By providing access to Career Counselling, children can not only dream about their future, but they can be set on a path to see these dreams become a reality.
Tailoring Courses
By providing Tailoring Courses to young adults we can help to strengthen their future and give them the skills to be able to earn an income.
Computer Training
Whn a young adult receives access to Computer Training it gives them skills for future employment.
Life Skills Training
Young Adults are being developed and trained in the necessary life skills to be prepared for their future.
Access to Higher Education
Sometimes all a young adult needs is the access to the opportunity to fulfill their dreams.
Protective Behaviours Training
We have developed training to teach about their rights and how to be resilient.
Community Projects
EDUCATION & NUTRITION PROGRAM
5 days a week we deliver an informal Education Program, coupled with a nutritious meal, to children living in six different slum communities within Kolkata.
Many children living in these communities are not accessing formal education for a variety of reasons. We know that education is a right for all and we endeavour to bridge the gap that would prevent children the opportunity to learn. Many times Parents are unable to provide home work support due to the fact that they are working, or themselves are limited in their education. Through our Education Programs we are supporting children who are attending school by helping them to thrive in their studies and to enhance what they are learning in the classroom. In addition to this, our dedicated team of four, deliver the program focused on providing support to children currently not attending school to enable them to learn the basics of both English and Bengali and also work with their families to see them access formal schooling.
We know even basic reading and writing skills are needed to secure quality employment in the future and no education is ever lost as an investment for a child’s future.
In addition to this education support, the children also receive a nutritious meal as part of the program, thus further strenghthening them and their family.
LITERACY TRAINING FOR WOMEN
Currently in one target community, alongside other programs, we are running Literacy Classes for Women. These classes are led by a teacher and community volunteers, who have had the privilege of receiving an education, and want to pass on this knowledge for the betterment of others. These classes help the women who participate to understand the basics of numeracy, and reading and writing in Bengali. These skills empower them to be more supportive mothers and grandmothers and also to have confidence when going about their daily duties. It’s well noted statistically that when women are educated it has a direct effect on the health and education of their children and lifts their community above the limitations of poverty.
TAILORING PROGRAM
In partnership with the local community, we are running a Tailoring Training Program for women in the Community.
This skill empowers them to care for themselves and their families in a greater way. Spending time together is with other women in the Community is a unique opportunity to bond together and support each other.
COMPUTER COURSES FOR YOUTH
In partnership with the local community, we provide a certified Computer Course for Youth, developing important skills for their future.
This level of engagement we have with the community gives youth the access to a free of charge, Formal Computer Course. Many young people, even though they may be attending school, do not have physical access to computers, which prevents them from practically learning, and having confidence in, this skill for their future. We are happy to run, in partnership with the local community, a Certified Course where young people can take a hands on approach to their learning. After completing their Certificate Course the students can continue on to a higher level of a Diploma in Desktop Publishing if this is helpful for their future.
KID'S CLUBS
We run Kids Clubs across four locations where children participate in singing, dancing, craft and fun activities.
These clubs engage children, their family and community by offering a safe and fun program. It is our aim that through these clubs children will be empowered and understand their unique gifts and abilities and be able to have positive interactions with their peers, as they learn respect for themselves, and each other
CRISIS RELIEF RESPONSES
The impacts of natural disasters on already vulnerable communities can be very devastating.
When a community is already living in survival mode, it takes very little to throw them off balance and into a crisis situation. In these moments children, and the family unit, become particularly vulnerable. Due to our established relationship network in the community, our team have a unique opportunity to be close to those experiencing hardship and work together to help provide the immediate necessary support.
Our team have recently had the privilege to respond to families in crisis by providing Essential Item Packages during the Covid-19 Pandemic and repairs to homes damaged during the Cyclones that hit West Bengal.
By providing these type of crisis relief responses we help to support families when they need it the most.
